A little background on how I found this watch: I am informally a watch collector, sans a respectable collection, but I do enjoy the culture of watches…enough that I drool over IWC and Audemars Piguets whenever I see one in the collectors’ forum that I frequent. After looking at countless beautiful black leather-strapped, white-faced watches that I could never in my life afford, I had to get my hands on something that has the looks of high-class without the price tag of high-class.
Naturally, I wanted a Swiss brand because they are very well known for their superior watchmaking skills, and I eventually came to this Victorinox Chronograph Classic.
The style of this watch is universal–very acceptable to wear casually with shorts and a T-shirt and also just as appropriate for the more formal occasions involving dress shirts and the like. This piece’s white face contrasts well with the beveled numbers, which are significantly, but not distractingly, larger than most other watches. The three subdials are subtle: they blend in with the white face, as to not distract attention from the main dial. The glow-in-the-dark material is well placed, perfectly complementing the black finish on the second and hour hands. Sapphire Crystal is incredibly resistant to scratches and also shines beautifully when wiped down with any kind of cloth; it should be known that the material you’re paying the most for is what’s on the dial window anyway.
The craftsmanship on this watch is worth every penny. I highly recommend the Classic Chrono…it’s a great entry-level piece, and I appreciate it more and more every time I take it off.
