Timex Men’s T42351 Expedition Premium Collection Chronograph Watch

June 22, 2010 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Timex

Review

I like the look of Marathon and Luminox dive watches. This has the look without the price-tag. And it’s a Timex so I knew it would keep time well. Plus it listed chronograph, Indiglo, and an alarm as features.

Like many cheap choronographs, this one doesn’t work well. When I reset it, the second hand rests 1 second behind the 12. The minute hand rests at the 1. I’ve had chronos like this. You just have to subtract 1 minute and 1 second from the displayed time. This would have been okay if not for the 2nd problem. When you stop the clock, the minute hand jumps ahead by an unpredictable amount. I think it may have crossed wires (figuratively) with the lap split function. That’s okay for me though, since I like chronos for the look rather than the function. I use a cheap digital stop-watch when I’m running and use my Seiko chrono for when I’m driving.

The Indiglo feature is always nice to have. This one seems dimmer than the other expedition, no doubt because of the black face. Everything is still readable so I have no issues with it. Like most glow-in-the-dark (GITD) paint, the hands on the watch only glow for a few seconds before they need a recharge. Doesn’t really matter though, considering the watch comes with Indiglo.

The alarm feature is great plus. This has come in handy on training and deployments when I’m trying to catch some sleep whenever, wherever I can. The sound is quiet enough to not bother those around me much, but loud enough to wake me since I sleep on my arms and the watch is right next to my ear.

It’s a tough watch that looks good, keeps time, and is very handy for people who take frequent naps. I’m very happy with it. Just don’t count on the chronograph to work.

BTW, it looks great on a Maratac Zulu band.

Feature

  • Quartz movement
  • Strong mineral crystal protects dial from scratches and scrapes
  • Case diameter measures 40 mm
  • Metal case; black dial; date function; chronograph functions
  • Water-resistant to 330 feet (100 M)

Overview

Fulfill your need for speed with this Timex Expedition Premium Collection chronograph watch, which features a bezel with an engraved tachymeter to help you measure time over distance. Its rugged construction makes for a very practical watch for any adventure, and the chronograph stopwatch can measure events down to 1/20 of a second. The large, round watch case measures 40mm wide (1.57 inches), and it’s complemented by a sporty, water-resistant leather strap. Other features include luminous hands, an easy-set alarm (rotate inner bezel to set alarm time), and water resistance to 100 meters (330 feet)–offering protection from accidental splashes as well suitable for swimming, snorkeling, and light recreational diving.

The Indiglo night-light uniformly lights the surface of the watch dial using patented blue electroluminescent lighting technology. It uses less battery power than most other watch illumination systems, enabling your watch battery to last longer. The Night Mode feature allows you to illuminate the Indiglo night-light for 3 seconds with any button press, regardless of the mode or function.

Baume & Mercier Men’s 8749 Hampton Square Titanium Watch

June 07, 2010 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Baume & Mercier

Review

I had carefully examined this watch at Tenshodo in Tokyo where the price, including tax, was 5,000 JPY. I wanted this watch, so I searched out the best price in Tokyo through the internet. The best price I found was through the World Watch Company in Setagaya-ku. Their cash only price, including tax, was 1,750 JPY. I then went to Amazon.com and found the identical watch through Perfect Timing for ,839.99 USD, plus .95 USD for Amazon international shipping charges (Perfect Timing international shipping charges were about half, but for some reason, I could not order directly from them).

This is my third watch from Perfect Timing, so I had confidence in purchasing from them again. One day after I placed my order through Amazon, Perfect Timing e-mailed me to let me know that there may be duties and extra charges associated with this purchase. I confirmed with them that this was okay, and they shipped the next day. The following day, the watch arrived in Tokyo via UPS. Duties and taxes added another ,100 JPY to the watch making the total price about 3,075 JPY. Comparing this to the best cash only price I could get in Tokyo from WWC, I saved about ,675 JPY (9.00 USD), and I added frequent flyer points to my credit card for this purchase. The watch was on my wrist within the same week after making a decision to purchase it at Tenshodo. It does pay to shop around.

My experience with Perfect Timing was once again…PERFECT. Their name is synonymous with their service, and I would highly recommend doing business with this company. For international orders, everything was perfectly packaged, including an international warranty card as well as a six months extension on this warranty offered directly from Perfect Timing.

It should be noted that there were other companies on the Amazon site offering the same watch at a lower price. However, my past experience with Perfect Timing, and that this was an international order, prompted me to pay a bit more to ensure perfect service again.

Invicta Men’s 6043 Subaqua Collection Noma III Chronograph Black Ion-Plated and Rubber Watch

June 03, 2010 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Invicta

Review

It wouldn’t be an Invicta without something wrong with it….not too bad though. It is definitely gun-metal, not Black-IP, as the Amazon description states, and the brushed areas are a little blotchy. There is also about 1/16 of an inch of play in the bezel when pushed in the opposite direction than the way it is intended to turn, again not too bad–good price 5. The bezel is pretty tight, so as long I don’t rotate the bezel too much and loosen it up, it shouldn’t be a problem and the blotchy finish is barely noticable.

I had an Invicta arrive missing a case back screw, one with blothy plateing, another that had an hour marker fall off the dial, and one that had the second hand fall off. This SAN III is a whole lot better than the Akula I got that was not keeping time at all when it arrived–defective movement, I had to have the movement completely disassembled, cleaned and put back together to get the watch working.

Not bad Invicta…you only screwed it up a little, and that’s pretty good for you. If they didn’t have such good looking designs I would never buy one of their never-know-what-your-gonna-get-watches ever again!!! I’m like a battered spouse that keeps coming back for more!

Feature

  • Precise Swiss-quartz movement; Swiss-Made timepiece
  • Durable flame-fusion crystal; brushed and polished black ion-plated stainless steel case; black rubber strap
  • Chronograph functions with 60 second, 30 minute and 1/10 of a second sub-dials; date function
  • Black and gold-tone grid dial with luminous hands; unidirectional outer bezel; tachymeter on inner bezel; limited edition; screw down crown with protective cap; screw down pushers
  • Water-resistant to 1,640 feet (500 M)

Overview

Featuring a black ion-plated stainless steel case, a black rubber and ion-plated bracelet, Swiss-quartz movement, and water-resistance to 1,640 feet (500 meters), this Swiss-made timepiece is able to track elapsed time with the use of three subdials. Nestled at the 4 o’clock position is a useful date window. With its stealth-like appearance, this watch is ready for any adventure.

Subaqua Collection

Led with expert engineering, and always ready to face the depths, no feat or occasion will ever be too great for Invicta’s Subaqua to handle. The sheer magnitude of this mighty timepiece is superbly executed with surgical-grade solid stainless steel, Swiss quartz or Swiss automatic movements, and multiple color options of ionic plating. Managing up to 500 meters of water, finished off with a unidirectional rotating bezel, integrated shock resistance, and Invicta’s luminous Trinite hands, the Subaqua is the diver’s definitive in negotiating any adventure by sea or by land.

Screw Down Crowns: Many Invicta watches are equipped with a screw down crown to help prevent water infiltration. This is most common on our Diver models. In order to adjust the date and/or time on such a watch, you must first unscrew the crown before you can gently pull it out to its first or second click stop position. To do this, simply rotate the crown counterclockwise until it springs open. When you have finished setting the watch, the crown must then be pushed in and screwed back in tightly. Not doing so will cancel the water resistance of the watch and will void all warranties from the manufacturer. Overall, this process should not require a lot of effort or force.

Citizen Men’s JY0000-53E Eco-Drive Skyhawk A-T Watch

May 30, 2010 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Citizen

Review

Before I get into the details, in a nutshell, if you like cool watches with quality performance and handsome looks: BUY THE WATCH.

This is a striking timepiece, both in functionality and physical appearance. Despite its beauty and overall appeal, be warned that it is not for the simple minded, or for those who like a clean, very basic dial, like a straightforward analog day/date for example. Frankly, the watch is quite complex and is capable of a myriad of functions. This may intimidate some people, but if you like the “does everything” watch, this is the one for you. FYI, the photo makes the dial look black, but it is actually not black; it is a very dark brown which becomes evident when you step into bright sunlight. A quick tour around the watch: the bi-directional rotating slide rule bezel is unique in that it possesses 12 little evenly spaced stainless steel raised knobs or studs on the side of the bezel. This makes turning the bezel much easier than normal. Pretty cool i thought. I haven’t seen another watch with those studs, but maybe one exists somewhere, who knows. The bracelet is very pleasing in my opinion. Multi link style with more individual pieces than your average bracelet. Looks nice. The luminescence is very bright and responsive to almost any form of light. As soon as you step into even a slightly dark room from the bright outdoors, the markers are starting to glow, and in a pitch black setting they are “screaming” green after adequate exposure to light. I also like the orange light for the digital display windows. FYI the watch is so complex that the instruction manual is 115 pages long. Basically, if you lose the manual you are screwed because it is essential for operating the watch to its full potential. Even setting the time was brain racking because it doesn’t operate like a tradional analog watch where the hour and minute hands are moved via the crown being pulled out and wound. Instead, you need to select your timezone on the digital display and press some of the function pushers and THEN the hands are automatically moved for you. Very cool, but it took me a while to figure out. Don’t get confused or upset if you can’t select the exact city you live in for your particular time zone. Just pick one of the cities closest to you that the watch provides. I strongly advise inserting the included instructional CD-ROM into your desktop and following along; it was very helpful. This watch is totally solar powered, and even gets charged from indoor light. The radio controlled function via the US Atomic Clock in Ft. Collins, Colorado is big time bragging rights if you ask me. Extremely high tech and keeps the watch 100% accurate. I stayed up one night just to see the 2 a.m. radio transmission from Colorado contact the watch and set it into action. I was impressed. World time in 43 cities is also stunning. This watch has way too many functions for me to list in a review, but essentially this is a great timepiece for a person who travels in and out of time zones frequently, or who needs unit conversions, etc., or just someone who appreciates a very competent watch with high funtionality, great craftsmanship, and cutting edge technology. I only wish that Citizen would have used sapphire crystal instead of mineral crystal. I still give it a five though. I hate scratched crystals on my watches, so perhaps after a year I will give the watch four stars instead! Amazing watch despite not having sapphire. What are you waiting for? GET IT DUDE!!!

Feature

  • Ecologically friendly, light powered Eco-Drive Caliber U600 Japanese-quartz movement; charges in natural sunlight or indoor light
  • Max power reserve: 180 days to 30 Months with Power Save; low charge warning: 3 days; charge time from stop state to max charge: Incandescent Light – 150 hrs, Outdoors, Cloudy (10,000 Lux) – 60 hrs, Outdoors, Sunny (100,000 Lux) – 20 hrs
  • Durable, hardened non-reflective mineral crystal; case diameter: 48 mm; 2 Alarms; 1/100 second chronograph measures up to 24 hours; 99 minute countdown timer; rotating slide rule bezel
  • Stainless steel case; black dial; perpetual-calendar; world time (43 cities) functions; Greenwich Mean Time display; atomic timekeeping with radio-controlled accuracy
  • Water-resistant to 660 feet (200 M)

Overview

Sporting a rotating slide rule bezel, the Citizen Skyhawk A-T stainless steel men’s flight watch offers advanced timing functions and the latest technology. It’s powered by Citizen’s unique Eco-Drive, which absorbs sunlight and any artificial light through the crystal and dial to recharge the watch continuously. The fast-forward timekeeping features include time and calendar in 43 cities, thirty cities, three world time alarms, a 99-minute countdown timer, one-touch interchangeable analog/digital time, and 1/100-second chronograph that measures up to 24 hours.

The large round silver stainless steel case measures 48mm (1.89 inches) wide and 16mm (0.63 inches) deep. The black dial background features large white hands with luminous tips as well as luminous square dial markers. It’s completed by a stylish multi-link stainless steel braclet band. Other features include water resistance to 200 meters (660 feet)–which will stand up to the rigors of recreational scuba diving.
